Hybrid Day: Magnet Fridge Games

Hi everyone. Rach here on this fine Wednesday to share with you my latest hybrid projects. Now, I have to admit, I am not the most natural hybrid artist. I am not that creative with physical objects ((sigh, but it's true)). And I mostly imitate what I see others do, and there is nothing wrong with that. But today I am super-proud because I came up with this little game all by my 'big girl' self!

I was browsing through Lyndsay's shop for some inspiration and found that quite a few of her kits have food products in them. I thought, why not make a Fridge Magnet game for my kids so they can sort ANYTIME foods (foods that they can eat everyday if they want to), and SOMETIME foods (foods that are not for everyday, but every once in a awhile).

I used quite a few of Lyndsay's kits to produce this game, but it was worth it and my kids already LOVE it! I used a bunch of products for this one!

Check it out!Here are the kits I used to make this adorable game! I used the Frames, papers and sweet treats from this gorgeous collab from Lyndsay Riches' and Ziggle Designs called Hey Sweetie.

I used the Veggies from this adorable kit from Lynds called Pizza Fresca!
I snagged some more candies and sugary foods from Sweet Halloween !
The Soda or 'Pop' as we Pittsburghers call it, and the popcorn came from Lyndsay and Suzy Q's Now Playing Collab.
Tons of fruits and the alpha came from this adorable collab from Lyndsay and Kristen Aagard called Fruity Cutie.

I really love how it turned out!! If you want to take the plunge into hybrid but you are nervous, a fridge game is an easy way to try it out! Until next time - soak up the sun and enjoy the day!

Happy Summer Scrapbookers! It's time for another Behind the Page, with me, Kala! Today's edition brings me to one of my favorite layouts EVER (and I don't use that word lightly!) with one of the CUTEST colabs ever! Have you seen Hey Sweetie from Lyndsay and Kami (of Ziggle Designs)? If not, it is certainly high time that you do!

If that doesn't say SWEET to you, I don't know what will! This kit is PACKED with fun goodies for your summer pics, whether it's for backyard cool treats or if you're looking to scrap your favorite carnival yummy sweets! For me, it was a great inspiration to allow me to show and tell about a sweet memory of my daughter...

This was one of those kits that directed where the feel of the layout was going to go. With the help of a template from Nanie's Designs I was able to use lots of bits and pieces from the colab (as well as from the add ons) to chronicle my girl who's typically not very camera-loving into a sweet little take on how she loves to turn on the charm for a certain giant teddy bear. I am amazed sometimes at what a kit has to offer takes an ordinary moment into an extraordinary memory. I hope you can find inspiration in this, or any of Lyndsay's fabulous kits!

Your favourite Lyndsay product?

Your favourite layout created using Lyndsay's stuffs?

Where do you get/what gives you - your scrapping inspiration? My kids, usually. A great picture usually screams at me to be scrapped and sometimes I love a kit so much that I just have to find a photo or take a photo that matches it!

Do you usually start with the picture or the paper? Usually the picture, but as I said, sometimes the kit just jumps out at me! I generally do elements first so that I can use them all then match the paper after. I know I am backwards!

Your favourite snack/drink while you scrap? I don't usually eat or drink, unless it is a glass of wine or maybe a beer.

Anything else you want to tell everybody????? I have a wonderful husband, two crazy kids (zach is 4.5 and ava is 3) and my terrier mix, Zave. I am so grateful that my husband helps so much or I would never have time to scrap on top of my two full time jobs (mom and speech pathologist at a special education preschool.)

Hi everyone!
Di here. And today I'm bringing you another of my finds around the wonderful world-wide web.

I love using sketches as a jumping off point for my layouts. One of my favourite sites for inspiration is Pencil Lines. I've been using Pencil Lines for a few years now, and they now have around 240 sketches available on their site. New sketches go up weekly, and there is always fantastic inspiration from the Pencil Lines design team. Another great feature is that their sketches are also converted to digital templates, which is a great time saving option for us digi scrappers.

Pencil Lines says: Pencil Lines is a blog all about using sketches to expand your artistic horizons, get you outside your box, and lift you out of scrappers block and to help you get more layouts done. It is about thinking outside your normal processes to create something wonderful.

So go take a look, you might just find a sketch that really inspires you to create something extra wonderful.

Hello everyone! **Holly** here with my first Lyndsay blog post! I was so excited to get to pic this months customer spotlight and found Karen32 while browsing the gallery! Here is what she had to say!

Tell me a little about yourself!

I am a 38 year old, stay at home mom of 2 boys. My oldest will be 12 soon and my youngest just turned 10. We live in colorful Colorado and when I am not scrapbooking I love to be outdoors enjoying the mountains. I have paper scrapped for years, but finally tried digital scrapping last November and quickly got hooked! I also do full time daycare for my nieces (7 and 4 years old) and another 2 year old. Before my kids were born I was an accountant and can definitely see myself doing something like that again in the next few years, probably when my youngest niece goes to kindergarten.

What is your favorite Lyndsay Riches kit?
My favorite Lyndsay Riches' kits that are currently in my stash are Boy Oh Boy and Urban Boyz.

I would love to get A Love Affair, Mommy Deerest and Playful.

How did you discover Scrap Orchard/Lyndsay Riches?
Shortly after I started scrapping I saw something on facebook for Project: Love, Me by SuzyQ Scraps and Ziggle Designs at Scrap Orchard. I loved all the stuff at the Orchard, Lyndsay and the other designers do such an amazing job. Boy Oh Boy was my first kit by Lyndsay and I remember going onto the Orchard forums and raving about it.

What are your favorite elements to use when scrapping?
I absolutely love papers, both patterned and solid. I usually decide whether or not to buy a kit based on the papers and their color palette. I also love swirls and scrolls and flowers. I am so thankful I have nieces to scrap and not just my boys, because they don't like the flowery stuff so much. :)

Blast From the Past: Spring Fresh

Our family room is affectionately known as “the blue room” because the walls are a deep royal blue. Even though we’ve lived in this house for nearly 6 years, the blue room has never been decorated beyond the painted walls, furniture we already had, and a few framed photos. (Since none of you have been to my house to say differently, let me assure you that every other room is up to House Beautiful standards. Of course. You believe me, right?) There’s no large scale redecorating project in the blue room’s near future, but lately I’ve been feeling the need to brighten things up a little. I’m still at the thinking stage, but I keep coming back to one of my favorite color palettes: blue, brown, cream, yellow, and green.

So it’s no surprise that today’s Blast From the Past kit, Spring Fresh, holds a place near and dear to my heart. I love the peaceful colors and paper pieced elements, and it was one of the first kits I got to scrap with after joining Lyndsay’s team.

Meet Kala !!!

Hi everyone! Rachel here for this month's Meet the CT. I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of Spring. It took long enough for it to get here, so every nice we get I am soaking up! We have alot of rain right now in Pittsburgh, so our sunny warm days are often interrupted, so I take what I can get when I get it!!!

In May we are featuring an incredible scrapper and all around sweet chica, Kala! I got together with Kala and asked her some questions. Here is what she had to say !!!

1. Your Name - Kala

3. How long you've been on Lyndsay's team - I started out as a guest in August 2010 and was able to stick around after that! Yay!

4. Your favourite Lyndsay product - The minute I saw Berry Delightful, I knew I had to have it. I do a calendar for my mom and dad with all of their grand kids and using themes for the pictures. I'm always on the lookout for a kit to go with our berry picking pics and this one is PERFECT!
5. Your favourite layout created using Lyndsay's stuffs -

6. Where do you get/what gives you - your scrapping inspiration - I'm inspired by all those fantastic layout creators out there, and strive to do try something new regularly. I also like really making my photography pop - whether with photo editing, a beautiful subject, or a fab kit!

7. Do you usually start with the picture or the paper? - Picture. I'd say I change the paper an average of 4-5 times before I'm done.

8. Your favourite snack/drink while you scrap - I usually scrap during nap time and need some kind of caffeine hit to get me through the rest of the day. It's either that or nap, and until I figure out how to nap and scrap at the same time, that will have to do!

9. Anything else you want to tell everybody????? - Pretty sure this is enough! ;)

Hey there scrappers! Sarah here to bring this months customer spotlight! This month we are getting to know Ramona (the pest). I think her screen name is funny because, in my opinion, she is one of the least pesty and one of the nicest people around digiland! Let's get to the good stuff! (I must add that great minds think alike in that Ellie featured a project from Ramona in one of the latest blog posts and we didn't plan to be all matchy matchy!)

What is your username/name?

How long have you been scrapping?
I have been scrapping for about 16 years, but turned to digital scrapping about 4 years ago.

What is your favorite thing about digiscrapping?
I LOVE that my kids can't get into it! I also love that I can print a book, but still have a digital copy. When my son (now 12) was 3, he took his paper scrapped album outside and left it in the sprinklers. I was devastated and am still trying to recreate his book! With digital, I will never have to worry about that again.

Describe your ideal scrapping environment:
A quiet house, some chocolate to snack on and about 3 great kits to inspire me!

What is your favorite Lyndsay product?
I love Lyndsay's work! Picking a favorite kit is almost impossible. However, I ADORE her newest kit:

I had to buy it immediately when I saw it in her newsletter! I can't wait to scrap with it!

Tell us a little about yourself:
I have 6 great kids who are the inspiration in all my layouts! I have been married for 15 1/2 years to my best friend and the love of my life! My favorite hobby (besides scrapping) is writing and although life is pretty busy now, someday I hope to finish at least one of the novels rattling around in my brain! I am also blessed with a son who has special needs. He has shaped me and tested me and taught me to love in a way I never thought possible. As a result, I find myself with a great love and passion for children who are born with extra challenges!

For fun, what are 3-5 things you can touch right now?
An empty Sobe lifewater bottle (my drink of choice), my camera (waiting to have Easter photos uploaded) and my 2 year old's new t-ball set (waiting to be put together)

I've been taking a look through Lyndsay's Gallery at Scrap Orchard and I came across a fab little project by Ramona the pest! Take a look at these...

Ramona has been very clever and created party invites from the Now Playing Hybrid Printables by Lyndsay & SuzyQ by adding the party details to the popcorn wrapper of the printables set! The idea of adapting an existing printable really appeals to me as my scrapping time is limited with two young kiddies. The image is linked to the gallery if you'd like to leave Ramona some love & below is a closer look at the printables that are in Lyndsay's store, again, the image is linked.

And you could even add to them using the kit!

So this shows that hybrid doesn't have to be so time consuming and involved, which may encourage you to give it a try :)

Behind The Page

Hello Scrappers! Kala here with your April edition of Behind The Page! I don't know about you, but here in Minnesota, it's been a ridiculously long winter. I'm ready for warmer days of grilling, the grass between my toes and some nice cool treats while I bask in the sun. So, since I am daydreaming of these things, I thought my Behind the Page feature should follow suit. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing Lyndsay's delicious A Cherry on Top kit, allow me to introduce you two!

And let's not forget the page that has me "ants"-y for a picnic (but, pardon my horrible pun)!

This is my daughter and her cousin enjoying ice cream cones after my hubby's delicious grilling for our Memorial Day cookout. I was watching them look at themselves in the reflection of the glass of our deck door. They were making funny faces, sticking out their tongues and giggling at the ice cream dripping down their chins like only 3-year-olds can do. So I opened the door and snapped them in this adorable shot together. I was even able to have little mini photo shoots with each of them separately. Because really, what is cuter than big blue eyes and button noses peaking out from over an ice cream cone?

So, there you have it! If you aren't already longing for some summer sweetness, I have a feeling this might put you over the edge. Enjoy my virtual ice cream treat with A Cherry On Top!

We've had so much to share with you lately that this week's Saturday Surprise has been pushed to Tuesday. I live near Washington, DC, and usually by April we’re well into spring here. This year’s weather has been so unusual that we’ve only just passed the period where each new day could find us in winter coats or short sleeves. But even if the weather isn’t reassuring me that summer is imminent, this week my neighborhood experienced another sign: our first visit from the ice cream truck. In honor of the occasion (and as a reminder that sooner or later it will be hot and sunny outside), I made you this summery photo cluster using one of Lyndsay’s older kits, Cool Summer. Card Roundup

Hi, everyone, Rachel (rach3975) here. I love making hybrid cards. It’s a great excuse to play with all my scrapping supplies, and it prevents the last minute dash to the store when I realize at the eleventh hour that I forgot to buy a card. (Why do I ALWAYS do that?) With 3 kids, a last minute dash to the computer is much more realistic! Today I’m going to share a few cards that I’ve seen in the galleries using Lyndsay’s kits and a couple that I made this week.

Teen boys can be so hard to scrap for. Thankfully I’m still years away from having a teenaged son (big sigh of relief!), but when I do I’m planning to copy this edgy idea from Yardybunch.

She used Lyndsay’s Urban Boyz Minikit for the invites.

This next “card” is a sweet gift and card in one. Laura Banasiak collaborated with Lyndsay on the 2 Peas in a Pod Collab, and she created this box with the kit. I’m going to be looking for an excuse to make something like this soon!

Two of my kids’ friends are having birthday parties next week. Thanks to this blog post, I get to avoid that last minute card-making frenzy x2!

This first card is for a seventh birthday. I don’t spend a lot of time on cards for the kids’ friends since I assume it won’t be long until they hit the recycling bin. For quick birthday cards, it’s hard to beat Lyndsay’s Party Like It’s Your Birthday! kit. It’s perfect for boy or girl cards (and layouts too, of course). The cupcake on this is raised with double sided foam mounting tape, but I couldn’t get the dimension to show in the photo.

Different things, sometimes it's the pictures that I take. I love taking close-ups of my daughters' features and sometimes I get excited to scrap those pics. Sometimes it's a kit and I get anxious to use a certain element or paper.

It depends. I usually start with a picture in mind and build from there.

8. Your favorite snack/drink while you scrap
Always some sort of pop. If you are wondering what pop is.... it's a soda. I love snacking while I scrap, especially on something chocolatey!

Hmmm. I love reality television, and I scrap while I watch my DVR'd shows (shame!), but I am a multi-tasker :)

Behind the Page with Sarah

For my behind the page post I decided to do this layout that I just recently scrapped of one of my favorite photos from our wedding. Our wedding was over five years ago now! I have scrapped a few pages from our wedding however I feel like every time I see that I have grown as a scrapper, I find pages that I just want to re-do or have ideas that I hadn't had before.

Lyndsay's kit A Love Affair totally inspired me to find this picture with the greenery. These pictures mean so much to me that I think I was afraid to scrap them in the beginning, afraid that I just wouldn't get it right.

My husband and I have a history with Laguna Beach. We started attending the Pageant of the Masters a year or so into dating and decided to make it a yearly tradition. We always go down for the day and walk around then go to the show at dusk. The first show we went to is when we started talking about marriage. We found this perfect spot over looking the beach and I just couldn't get it off of my mind. We got engaged about 6 months later and did our engagement pictures in Laguna. About 6 months after that we were married in that exact special spot surrounded by 50 of our closest friends and family. It was truly a magical day. The picture in the layout shows part of the romance of it all. For the past five years we have gone to Laguna to celebrate our anniversary. We usually celebrate a bit early so that we can also go to the show that helped our relationship to blossom.

On another note, I wanted to add that I am a bit of an odd scrapper, it seems. I always fill my page with elements before I pick out my paper. This kit from Lyndsay had so many beautiful ellies that I just wanted to use them all! So there you have it, the real story behind my page!

Hmmm, I've been scrapping for about 9 years, but started doing digital exclusively about four years ago. I first started using Memory Mixer because Photoshop intimidated me. But then I learned PSE last year, starting with using templates, and now I'm an addict!

What is your favorite thing about digi scrapping?
I love that I can move things around and change my mind. I use to spend hours on layouts in paper scrapbooking because I took forever to commit to things! I also love that you can use things over and over again, and share albums with family. And I love doing hybrid projects. I create cards, handouts for my church group, decorations, mini albums... The sky's the limit!

Describe your ideal scrapping environment (music, drink, desk, couch, etc).
I usually have Josh Groban or One Republic going, a nice tall Big Gulp with Coke, sitting at my desk with a plate of cheese fries. Mmmmm....

What is your favorite Lyndsay Riches product and why?
I am in love with the Love Affair kit. The mixture of the greens with the black and white is so romantic. The "A Little Sunny Mini" kit has been a lot of fun to work with too-it's so cheerful! Honestly, all of her designs are full of fun colors, cute elements, and are so versatile. I'm working my way through buying the store! :)

Share your favorite LO created with Lyndsay's stuffs.
I just did one with the "Love Affair" kit with my husband and I. It's our favorite picture, taken when we were dating. The picture means a lot to us and I wanted to create a page that we could turn into a canvas wall art print. This kit was absolutely perfect for it!

What is your favorite movie and/or TV show?
Oh, goodness! I have a lot of fav's but one that never gets old is "Ever After" and "Phantom of the Opera". My favorite TV shows are "Lie to Me", "American Idol", and "Royal Pains". I will admit too that I do watch "The Bachelor"!

Tell us a little more about yourself.
I am a work from home mommy to a fun little 19 month old boy. He's pretty much the subject of every LO I do. My hubby and I have been married for five years. I love reading, playing the piano, dancing, cooking, crafting, napping, and I have a little business doing family, event, and wedding videography (filming events and then editing the footage).

It's Potty Time! A Hybrid Tutorial

A few weeks ago I made a chore chart for my 7-year old. His little brother has been a little envious, begging for one of his own. If only he knew! Older brother would gladly hand over his chart and responsibilities if I’d let him. Ben doesn’t need a chore chart yet, but I’m hoping a potty chart will motivate him. When he completes the entire thing, whether that takes 1 day or 1 week, he’ll earn extra computer time.

Potty training this little guy is promising to be a challenge, but at least Lyndsay has the perfect kit to make creating the chart easy! I used her Squeaky Clean Collab with Ziggle Designs to create this potty chart. The alpha is from Talkin’ About Boys.

I’m paper and scissors challenged, so I kept it pretty basic. My chart is magnetic, but you could also make a paper version, laminate it, and use dry erase markers on it. Here’s how I made mine.

Supplies: Magnet paper (see below for Note on Magnetic Products), Magnetic Backing for Business Cards (optional), printer, scissors

1. Create a new 8.5x11 image in your graphic software.

2. Open the paper you want to use for your background. Resize it to 8x8 and drag it onto the new, blank image.

3. Create your chart on top of the background sheet. Use the rest of the space for the tokens that you’ll place on top of the chart. (Note: Dry erase markers won’t work on magnet paper, so you need something magnetic to mark the boxes.)

4. Print.

5. Using a scissors or paper trimmer, cut everything out. If you use your trimmer, just be aware that my limited experience has already taught me that magnet paper wears out your blade much faster than regular paper.

6. Reinforce the tokens if needed (see Note About Magnetic Products below). To reinforce, I placed strips of tokens on the adhesive-front magnets and cut the tokens out.

Have fun creating! If you make a chart, link us up so we can leave you some love.

Note About Magnetic Products: When I went to get my magnet paper, I really wanted an 8.5x11 magnetic sheet with an adhesive front. I’d been planning to print on paper then adhere to the magnetic sheet. I couldn’t get to the craft store to see if such a product existed, so I used the closest thing I could find at Staples, which was magnetic sheets meant to be run through the printer. In order to fit through the printer, it has to be flimsier than I wanted. It was fine for the background of the chart, but a little too flimsy for the small tokens that we use to mark off boxes. They’re hard to handle, and in such small squares there isn’t much staying power. Because of that I reinforced the tokens with a stronger magnetic product, business card sized magnets with an adhesive front. Once reinforced they work perfectly, but I hope you’re able to find thicker magnets to start with!

What's the Story, Morning Glory?

Hi everyone, It is Lori J here today to give you the inside scoop on one of my layouts, sort of a behind the scenes kind of thing.

It is hard picking one layout but the one that I decided to go with is my latest page with Lyndsay's newest kit "A Love Affair".

Here it my layout:

Now the reason that I chose this layout was that a few days ago I was bored and surfing around on Facebook, lurking here and there and I came across these pictures on my sister's page. I had never seen these pictures of myself and my daughter and I loved them immediately. There were a couple of things that immediately struck me, 1. My daughter has grown up so much in the past could year or so since these were taken. Time flies so fast. 2. Her beautiful curls have all grown out, I miss those curls! and 3. I look so fitter then than I do now. I need to get back on my healthy track.

So I made this layout the other night and it flowed together so easily. Some found pictures and some found inspiration and there you have it, a wonderful page for my books!

What about you guys? Have you ever found pictures that you didn't know you had? Have you ever found some memories or inspiration that you didn't know you had in you? I hope that you all find whatever inspiration you need and be creative tonight!

Blast From the Past Wednesday!

Hi everyone! Rachel here (rachnmaddie) bringing you today's Blast from the Past! I don't know
about your house, but my two girls are so jazzed about Valentine's Day this year. They keep asking when their school parties are and when they are going to be able to take their little Valentines to school to pass out. Now, I am not against the holiday, I love to get a little 'lovey' gift from my honey, and maybe even enjoy a night out on the town sans kids, but as far as the little girls are concerned, their dad and I would much rather lock them in their rooms than think about Valentine's Days to come! LOL!

Hi all! Yolanda here, bringing you today's Customer Spotlight. Our victim this time around is Tammy [aka tammybean]. Let's get to know her a bit, shall we?

1. Your screen name? Your real name? Tammy and on the forums I use tammybean, which is a mixture of my name and my big kitty Sydneybean, who is the queen bee of our home.

2. How long have you been scrapping? Which program do you use? I have been digi scrapping for about 3 years, and I am still as obsessed now as I was when I first started. I use a mixture of CS3 and Fireworks.

3. What is your favorite thing about digi scrap? I love the fact that I can create wonderful memories of my kiddos. I must admit however while I can do this paper style, I am so not a very creative person. Digi allows me to use a template, delete, use an element multiple times and change the kit up to my style. Plus did I mention I can use the delete key! I cant tell ya how many times I have started out a layout and it ended up totally different then when I first started.

4. Describe your ideal scrapping environment (music, drink, desk, couch, etc). I am a diet coke freak, so I usually have a diet coke next to me while I scrap. Also it all depends on my mood as to what my scrapping environment consist of. I do all my scrapping at my desk, sometimes I listen to music, other times I prefer to scrap in complete silence. One bad thing for me is I am easily distracted so you can usually find me on FB while I work on my layout.

5. What is your favorite Lyndsay Riches product and why? friendsdotcom is my favorite kit by Lyndsay, for someone who spends most of her time on the computer chatting with friends, checking mail and scrapping, it is the perfect kit. I love the bright fun colors and cute modern technology elements.

6. Share your favorite LO created with Lyndsay's stuffs.

7. What are your top 3 favorite foods? Salad, Lasagna and home made Cheeseburger Calzone (hubby makes this and it absolutely rocks!!).

8. What is your favorite movie and/or TV show? For TV, I absolutely LOVE True Blood (I am so ADDICTED...must watch every week, although I love the books 10x's more) and as for my favorite movie I would have to say The Ugly Truth (who doesnt love Gerard Butler).

9. Tell me a little more about yourself. I am a SAHM of three wild boys. Hubby and I are from NY, but moved to TN 4 years ago. When I am not in front of my computer scrapping or spending time with the family you can find me curled up somewhere with a book. I am so seriously obsessed with reading, I dont know which obsession is stronger that or scrapping.

10. So I hear it's your birthday today :o) Any fun plans to celebrate? Hubby is taking me out to lunch, and then we are going to see the newest Harry Potter at the theatres!

Our house has been full of sickness these last couple of months, with my daughter coping it the worst. She's been full of head colds, sore ears, sore throats and a bad cough. Every night when she goes to bed, she asks me to sing her a lullaby to make her feel better. And that reminded me of one of my very favorite kit of Lyndsay's called Love & Lullabies.
