Well this week my daughter came home with this book:

Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet by Diane DeGroat

I found the title very funny because I sing a song to her every year with these words, which most of you may already know.  It's a really cute story.  You should check it out at your local library.

Anyway....

Tips using the alignment tool

Angie here with a quick tip about digital scrapbooking that I found about a year ago and I do not know how I got by without it.

This tool will help you align elements in a straight line horizontally or vertically,  even align the center of the elements or left side or right side.  It is a very handy tool.

I hope you take some time to play with this tool while scrapbooking.  It is a huge time and frustration saver.

Here is a scrapbook page I created with one of Lyndsay's kits using the alignment tool.  I used it to align the photos here.

 

Here I used the alignment tool for the 3 photos and the vertical line of candies.

Hybrid Goodness

Hi, everyone. Rachel here again. I'll confess that for most of the year, simple birthday cards are the only form of hybrid I dabble in. I'm more than a little scissors and glue challenged. But there's something about this time of year that makes me want to expand my hybrid repetoire. With Halloween costumes and decorating and holiday gifts to give, it's the perfect time to think of new ways to use some of your favorite Lyndsay Riches kits. I don't usually snack or drink while scrapping, but chocolate or cheesy twist would be great companions :D

I am an Indonesian currently living in Liverpool United Kingdom, doing a PhD in Computer Science :) I love love love digital-scrapping, because then I don't have to experience a messy traditional paper-scrapping.

Behind the Page

Hi everyone! Kendall (aka kendallt) here to bring you the latest edition of "Behind the Page." Hehe...I just love that title. Doesn't it sound so dramatic? ;) I chose the LO I did using Lyndsay's amazing Crisp Days of Fall collab with Julie Bullock.



Okay, I have a confession to make...For the longest time, I hated fall. Blasphemy, I know! Let me explain. I live in the sunny and HOT Southeast, and I love summer! To me, summer just means fun in the sun, a more relaxed, carefree feeling, and wonderful family memories spent at the beach, BBQ'ing outside, or lounging by the pool. And then fall comes along and destroys all that. Perhaps I'm being a little too hard on fall, but I just don't care for cold weather. Plus, here in SC, we don't get much of a fall. The seasons change pretty abruptly, so we very rarely are able to experience the gorgeous fall colors, changing of the leaves, etc.

So, here I am hating fall pretty much all my life until I started scrapbooking. As cheesy as it may sound, being a scrapper has really changed the way I look at life in general and preserving my family's memories. I started seeing all the possibilities fall had to offer and appreciating it for those possibilities. The page I created with Crisp Days of Fall captures my family engaging in one of our favorite fall traditions: pumpkin carving!



Ever since my daughter was a baby, and even before she could really participate, my husband and I have made a huge deal of choosing the perfect pumpkin (or two!) and carving him or her into a jack-o-lantern masterpiece! Usually, my husband is the chief carver, my daughter the all-around assistant and head pumpkin guts scooper, and I'm the resident photographer.

A few years ago, I had an epiphany. This is such a messy project; why don't we do it outside? Brilliant! And so, in my LO, I tried to capture just a few of the fun and silly moments my family had carving our pumpkin last year. I think I speak for my husband and daughter when I say this is something all of us looks forward to year after year--our own little fall family tradition.

Tip from Lyndsay's CT - using the warp tool

Hey everyone, Lisa here with a tip from Lyndsay's CT :)

Today I'm going to talk about shadows, specifically using the warp tool on your shadows to create a more realistic 3D look to your layouts.

Using the warp tool on my shadows is usually one of the very last things I do on a layout, you want to make sure everything is how you want it before you do this. (so you don't have to redo it) Here's a layout I made using Lyndsay's kit

I am going to show you how I added a warped shadow to the stick element on this layout. First thing you should do is to add a regular drop shadow, I change ALL my drop shadows to the blending mode 'Linear Burn' which gives your shadow a more realistic appearance by taking on the color of whatever is underneath it as opposed to just plain solid black shadowing. (click on images to enlarge)



Next you want to put the drop shadow on it's own layer, right click on your layer styles on the element and select 'Create Layer' this puts the drop shadow on a separate layer below your element.



Make sure you have your new shadow layer selected and then go to Edit > Transform > Warp.



You will then see a grid over top of your shadow with points on the corners and different places across the grid which you can click on and manipulate.



click and pull down where ever you want the element to look like it's farther away from the page. When you are done and you have the shadow how you want it press Enter.

If you feel like your shadow is too dark you can adjust the opacity or fill of the layer to make it lighter. You might also want to add a Gaussian Blur to the layer (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) this will give a much softer look to your shadow making the element appear like it's coming off of the page.

Here is the finished layout with the new warped shadow, I also did the same effect on the lower branch at the bottom of the page.



Here is another example of a layout where I used the warp tool, this page was made with the stunning kit Fruity Cutie by Lyndsay Riches & Kristin Aagard

I used the warp tool on the shadow for the bow at the top of the page.

Customer Spotlight-September

It's time once again to browse through Lyndsay's gallery and see all the beautiful layouts that you fans have created! For this month's Customer Spotlight, I chose to highlight Leslea (forum name-ImAMAcGirl). Her layout, 'Portraits with Dirty Faces' really caught my eye! I love the big frame and the placement of her photo. The layered paper is the perfect touch.

I asked her a few questions so that we could all get to know her a little better...

1. How long have you been scrapbooking? Has it only been digiscrap?
In 1998 - 99. I was in school for design and photography, and I had pictures, a scanner and PhotoShop 4. I began scanning my pics and putting them on together with elements I'd create for classwork assignments. After I graduated, I kept up with my 'picture journaling' as I called it until I discovered digiscrapping. Needless to say, a LOT of those layouts are in serious need of being redone. I didn't have access to all the cute stuff that's out now. I took a year off from scrapping, and coming back I am blown away by the talent of designers like Lindsay.

I'm actually a paper scrapper as well - going to a crop this Friday. I'm starting to dabble in hybrid too.

2. What drew you to the kit you used for this layout?

I had originally bought Friends Dot Com for the techie aspect of it. It's all girly, yet techie and that is just too darn cute. I had bought this for some pics I have of DD and her best friend - but it worked with this picture of my Mom and DD because when I unzipped the kit I fell in love with the frame. I still have LOTS of layouts left in this kit!! It is SO much fun!

3. What's you favorite kit of Lyndsay's?

The collabs she has now are amazing... AMAZING! I just bought another one earlier this week, and I can't wait to get to work with it. I've been eyeing "I've got a feelin'" because it's stinking cute and the colors are so great for me to use with all my kids. "Joyous Christmas" & "Sweet Sugar Holidays" are going to adorn some of my hybrid Christmas gifts I'll be doing. Those kits are so "Christmasy" but not traditional. LOVE that! Oh, and "Squeaky Clean" is next on the list - that kit is darling and I have some great pictures for it! I don't think that I could really pick one favorite.

4. What's your favorite thing about digital scrapbooking?

I love being able to SAVE and be done, and no mess to clean up and I ADORE the fact that I can use my products over and over and over again. I love all the communities, and being able to share my layouts and get feedback from the designers.

5. What do you love about Lyndsay's designs?

I love her color pallets. They are bright, fun and never boring. She always has a variety of elements, and I love the characters she puts in there and her papers aren't dull.

She was worried about being too wordy but I don't think there is such a thing lol! Thanks Leslea for letting us get to know you a little better and for using Lyndsay's designs. Hybrid Humpday!!

Angie here to bring you a few hybrid ideas.  I am loving hybrid right now!  It is the perfect way to use your Digital Scrap stash to make fun projects.  Cards, house warming gifts, home decor.  You name it and it can be done with hybrid.

I hope these ideas spark some creativity for you and you will want to dive in and create something hybrid.

I love the fall! Summer in the Washington, DC area is uncomfortably hot and humid, so we spend a lot of time sitting inside with the air conditioning on. By mid-September the humidity is gone, but it's still sunny and warm. That's probably why my family has so many outdoor fall traditions. In a few weeks we'll drive to a beautiful orchard on a mountain for our annual apple picking trip. The air will be crisp, the leaves will be gorgeous shades of red, yellow and orange, and the apples will be sweet and juicy. I can't wait to go.
