Behind the Page: June

Happy Summer Scrapbookers! It's time for another Behind the Page, with me, Kala! Today's edition brings me to one of my favorite layouts EVER (and I don't use that word lightly!) with one of the CUTEST colabs ever! Have you seen Hey Sweetie from Lyndsay and Kami (of Ziggle Designs)? If not, it is certainly high time that you do!

If that doesn't say SWEET to you, I don't know what will! This kit is PACKED with fun goodies for your summer pics, whether it's for backyard cool treats or if you're looking to scrap your favorite carnival yummy sweets! For me, it was a great inspiration to allow me to show and tell about a sweet memory of my daughter...

This was one of those kits that directed where the feel of the layout was going to go. With the help of a template from Nanie's Designs I was able to use lots of bits and pieces from the colab (as well as from the add ons) to chronicle my girl who's typically not very camera-loving into a sweet little take on how she loves to turn on the charm for a certain giant teddy bear. I am amazed sometimes at what a kit has to offer takes an ordinary moment into an extraordinary memory. I hope you can find inspiration in this, or any of Lyndsay's fabulous kits!

Enjoy scrapping those summer memories!

Behind The Page

Hello Scrappers! Kala here with your April edition of Behind The Page! I don't know about you, but here in Minnesota, it's been a ridiculously long winter. I'm ready for warmer days of grilling, the grass between my toes and some nice cool treats while I bask in the sun. So, since I am daydreaming of these things, I thought my Behind the Page feature should follow suit. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing Lyndsay's delicious A Cherry on Top kit, allow me to introduce you two!

And let's not forget the page that has me "ants"-y for a picnic (but, pardon my horrible pun)!

This is my daughter and her cousin enjoying ice cream cones after my hubby's delicious grilling for our Memorial Day cookout. I was watching them look at themselves in the reflection of the glass of our deck door. They were making funny faces, sticking out their tongues and giggling at the ice cream dripping down their chins like only 3-year-olds can do. So I opened the door and snapped them in this adorable shot together. I was even able to have little mini photo shoots with each of them separately. Because really, what is cuter than big blue eyes and button noses peaking out from over an ice cream cone?

So, there you have it! If you aren't already longing for some summer sweetness, I have a feeling this might put you over the edge. Enjoy my virtual ice cream treat with A Cherry On Top!

Behind the Page with Sarah

For my behind the page post I decided to do this layout that I just recently scrapped of one of my favorite photos from our wedding. Our wedding was over five years ago now! I have scrapped a few pages from our wedding however I feel like every time I see that I have grown as a scrapper, I find pages that I just want to re-do or have ideas that I hadn't had before.

Lyndsay's kit A Love Affair totally inspired me to find this picture with the greenery. These pictures mean so much to me that I think I was afraid to scrap them in the beginning, afraid that I just wouldn't get it right.

My husband and I have a history with Laguna Beach. We started attending the Pageant of the Masters a year or so into dating and decided to make it a yearly tradition. We always go down for the day and walk around then go to the show at dusk. The first show we went to is when we started talking about marriage. We found this perfect spot over looking the beach and I just couldn't get it off of my mind. We got engaged about 6 months later and did our engagement pictures in Laguna. About 6 months after that we were married in that exact special spot surrounded by 50 of our closest friends and family. It was truly a magical day. The picture in the layout shows part of the romance of it all. For the past five years we have gone to Laguna to celebrate our anniversary. We usually celebrate a bit early so that we can also go to the show that helped our relationship to blossom.

On another note, I wanted to add that I am a bit of an odd scrapper, it seems. I always fill my page with elements before I pick out my paper. This kit from Lyndsay had so many beautiful ellies that I just wanted to use them all! So there you have it, the real story behind my page!

Behind the Page-Ghosts in the Graveyard

I know, I know...you thought that once November hit you'd be done with Halloween posts. Sorry, but I love it and just can't let it go quite yet! How about I just promise my December blog post will have nothing to do with Halloween, okay?

Mmm, Mmm...Messy is my most recent page about one of my family's longest-running traditions, the making of Ghosts in the Graveyard. I've shared the complete story in older layouts, which is why the journaling on this one is so simple.

I scrapped it using Lyndsay's Sweet Halloween Kit:

When I was in college, I volunteered at a university-run afterschool program for elementary schoolers living in a low income housing project. I stumbled across a recipe for Ghosts in the Graveyard, and it seemed like the perfect mix of art and food, an easy no-cook cooking project to do with the kids for Halloween. (It's basically chocolate pudding, cool whip, and cookies with seasonal decorations. Delicious and impossible to mess up, no matter how many little hands are helping!)

When Halloween rolled around during my sophomore year of college, my husband and I had been dating for about 6 weeks. When he saw what I was going to make with the kids, he insisted I get enough for us to make a batch, too. I did, and we had a blast making it in the dorm kitchen. We had so much fun making (and eating!) it that we haven't missed a year since--that's 17 straight years of making Ghosts in the Graveyard together. (17 years? That makes me feel old.) The decorating (and most of the eating) is now done by our 7, 4, and 1 year olds. Our masterpiece might not look quite as good as it did when DH and I made it ourselves, but it's even more fun to make it with them!

My daily dose of nostalgia is done now, so I'll let you return to your regularly scheduled November activities. Just make sure you stop by the blog this weekend for International Digital Scrapbooking Day. You never know what might show up on the blog during a celebration like this...

Behind the Page

Hi everyone! Kendall (aka kendallt) here to bring you the latest edition of "Behind the Page." Hehe...I just love that title. Doesn't it sound so dramatic? ;) I chose the LO I did using Lyndsay's amazing Crisp Days of Fall collab with Julie Bullock.

Photobucket

Okay, I have a confession to make...For the longest time, I hated fall. Blasphemy, I know! Let me explain. I live in the sunny and HOT Southeast, and I love summer! To me, summer just means fun in the sun, a more relaxed, carefree feeling, and wonderful family memories spent at the beach, BBQ'ing outside, or lounging by the pool. And then fall comes along and destroys all that. Perhaps I'm being a little too hard on fall, but I just don't care for cold weather. Plus, here in SC, we don't get much of a fall. The seasons change pretty abruptly, so we very rarely are able to experience the gorgeous fall colors, changing of the leaves, etc.

So, here I am hating fall pretty much all my life until I started scrapbooking. As cheesy as it may sound, being a scrapper has really changed the way I look at life in general and preserving my family's memories. I started seeing all the possibilities fall had to offer and appreciating it for those possibilities. The page I created with Crisp Days of Fall captures my family engaging in one of our favorite fall traditions: pumpkin carving!

Photobucket

Ever since my daughter was a baby, and even before she could really participate, my husband and I have made a huge deal of choosing the perfect pumpkin (or two!) and carving him or her into a jack-o-lantern masterpiece! Usually, my husband is the chief carver, my daughter the all-around assistant and head pumpkin guts scooper, and I'm the resident photographer.

A few years ago, I had an epiphany. This is such a messy project; why don't we do it outside? Brilliant! And so, in my LO, I tried to capture just a few of the fun and silly moments my family had carving our pumpkin last year. I think I speak for my husband and daughter when I say this is something all of us looks forward to year after year--our own little fall family tradition.

Thanks for reading my "Behind the Page," and if you haven't already, be sure to check out Lyndsay's gorgeous kit Crisp Days of Fall in the Scrap Orchard market. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Behind the Page

Out and about in the galleries this week, I'm starting to see layouts with first day of school photos. It makes fall seem imminent even though it's still swimming weather here and my kids will be on summer break for another 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to fall's cooler weather, but I'm not ready to go back to our hectic school year schedule.

One of the things I'm going to miss the most about summer is lazy time spent outside with my kids...no, not lazy. Unstructured. When my kids are outside, nothing about them is lazy. Their imaginations and bodies are moving a mile a minute. For my sons, every stick becomes a light saber, every tree is a potential hiding spot for the bad guys, and full speed is the only speed. That's exactly what I wanted to capture in this layout about my son, Ben.

There was nothing extraordinary about the day I took these photos. I was hanging out with the kids outside, enjoying the shade and chasing my toddler while the two older boys played. They played the same outdoor games as usual, and Jason bossed Ben around while Ben happily went along with everything Jason asked of him. It was nothing special, yet it was exactly the kind of everyday moment that I scrap to remember.

I scrapped this using one of my favorite kits, Lyndsay's Talkin' About Boys. I also used a template by Cindy Schneider, cardboard pieces by Kim Christensen, and ribbon from Lyndsay and Amy Stoffel's Garden Adventures Collab.

Hi all....Helen here!! Hope your week was a good one. For me it flew by quicker than a flash of lightening. Even though it was just a four day work week I am still amazed at how fast it went. That, of course, leaves me shaking my head at everything I still need to get done before my nephews' birthday party! I have a cake to decorate and a birthday card to design, print and fashion together, hybrid-style. Oh yeah, and I started things off on the wrong foot last night when I went to bake the cakes and realized I didn't buy the eggs. Ughs! Eggs are an essential ingredient Helen!!! Nothing like being in your comfy clothes, covered in powered sugar from making the three batches of icing, only to realize you have to run to the store now. Never will I be a contender for the crown of Queen Suzy Homemaker, lol.

Moving on from the drama of my life. I am really here today to take you "behind the page" of one of my layouts. I chose this layout entitled "delicious". Time to dish the goods.....

I used the kit, Berry Delightful, designed by Lyndsay herself. I also used a template by Crystal Livesay called Aly's Jumpers. This kit is so adorable. I love reds, greens & blues all mixed together and that little birdie I used is my favorite element in the kit....so stinkin' cute!!!

These photographs were taken, as the tag shows, Easter of this year. My family and I spent the afternoon at my brother and SIL's home where we BBQ'd and hid easter eggs for a hunt. Okay, maybe hid isn't quite the right word....the boys were not quite 2 yet so it was more like "hid in plain sight so the boys could walk right passed them and still miss them" hunt. In the photos are:

Top Left: My mom and her grandson, Trevor.

Bottom Right: My mom and her great-grandson, Caiden.

Did you catch that? My mom became a great-grandmother AND a grandmother (again) within 7 weeks of each other in 2008. The SIL always reminds mom how it was "her" that made my mom "younger" by giving her a grandson vs. a great-grandson. Yes, both boys were quite a surprise. Neither were planned but both are loved endlessly & obsessively.

So, the boys had each been given these adorable miniature, plastic wheel barrels overflowing with easter grass. Inside, among the grassy grass were oodles of eggs filled with candy and even some toys to boot! The candy they seemed to love the most were the little bitty round candy-coated chocolates that came about 6 to a sleeve. They kept dropping them on the floor so Grandma a.k.a. Memaw decided to just squeeze them out into her hand and let them each take one at a time. She soon realized she had all the bribery she needed to get sweet kisses. So began the game.....a kiss for a candy.....a kiss for a candy.....a kiss for a candy. It is moments like these we can never get back again and I am so glad I had my camera and captured it for future smiles to be had.

That, my friends, is the story behind this page of mine. Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a blessed weekend!

~Helen~

Behind The Page

Hello fellow scrappers! Niki here to share with you some background info behind one of my favorite layouts with Lyndsay's kit, Mommy Deerest.
When I looked at the kit, I immediately thought of my favorite picture of my little girl, Alahna, and I. It was taken on my 30th Birthday, last September. We were sitting at our dining room table in the middle of the afternoon enjoying some yummy Birthday cake. It's hard to tell in these photos, because I turned them Black and White for the layout, but Alahna has cake all over her face and we were giggling because of that!
I loved all of the feminine swirls and bows and ribbons in this kit, along with the colors and textures in the papers. I had to use my favorite photo with this gorgeous kit!
